Cybercrime soared by 83% during last three years in Pakistan

After learning that cybercrime had increased by 83% over the previous three years, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication on Wednesday ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to present proposals at the following meeting to enhance the performance of its cyber wing.

The panel, which met in this location under the leadership of Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, expressed extreme concern regarding the smear campaigns and negative propaganda against institutions, journalists, and politicians that are being run on social media, as well as the harassment of elected officials and their families.

The committee placed a strong emphasis on the development of the employees working in the FIA’s cybercrime wing, and it made the urgent recommendation that the federal government hire permanent, capable, and experienced officials there while also ensuring the availability of the required resources.

MNA Javeria Zafar raised grave worry about the cybercrime system at the discussion, claiming that offenders are contacted, intimidated, and then released.

Child pornography carries a life sentence in prison, while blasphemy carries the death penalty, according to an FIA officer.
