Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II Tested Positive for Covid-19 After Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral

The royal palace stated on Wednesday that Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who was present for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in London, tested positive for Covid-19.

The triple-vaccinated, 82-year-old queen tested positive on Tuesday night, the palace announced in a statement, one day after the funeral. She had already received Covid in February.

The statement made no mention of the Queen’s health, only that “The Queen’s activities this week have therefore been cancelled,”

After her father, Frederik IX, passed away in January 1972, Margrethe ascended to the throne at the age of 31, becoming the first woman to rule as queen of Denmark.

Since her passing, Queen Elizabeth II has had the longest reign of any queen in Europe.

She is only four years behind the Sultan of Brunei.

While less than half of the Danes supported the monarchy at the time of her succession, the royal family now enjoys support from more than 80% of the public, making it one of the most well-liked in the world.

After becoming a widow in 2018, she has frequently vowed to never resign from her position.

She has stated that “I will stay on the throne until I drop,”.

When the time comes, her 54-year-old eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik, will take over as monarch.
