Pakistan Remembers Ahmad Faraz on his 90th Birth Anniversary

Today is the 90th birth anniversary of the renowned Urdu poet Ahmad Faraz who is also known as the best modern Urdu poets of the last century. The Kohat-born poet moved to Peshawar with his family where he studied at famous Edwards College, Peshawar, and also received two Masters Degrees; one in Urdu and the other in Persian from Peshawar University.

The Urdu poet took his last breath on 25th August 2008. He was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Soon after his death, he was also honored with Hilal-e-Pakistan by the Government of Pakistan.

He holds the same status as Faiz Ahmad Faiz in the world of poetry. He also holds a significant place with a fine yet simple writing style. His poetry is easily understood by everyone including people unaware of the language of poetry.

He penned down the immortal ghazals like Ranjish hi sahi, Ab ke bichhde toh khwaabon mein, and Karoon na yaad magar, among many others.

He had never seemed interested in writing for films whether Bollywood or Lollywood and refused numerous offers from celebrities of their times because poetry for him was never a means of earning but a passion, an unexplainable passion.
