Shehbaz Gill granted bail on sedition charge by the IHC

Shahbaz Gill, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had his bail granted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday in a sedition case.

The Islamabad Police detained Gill on August 9 in front of Banigala Chowk on suspicion of “making remarks against state institutions and encouraging the public to insurrection.”

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah ordered Gill to provide Rs 500,000 in surety bonds after accepting his release.

The PTI leader said in his appeal, which was presented to the IHC on September 2, that there was proof of torture on him, and as a result, the court should give him post-arrest bail.

Gill argued that the lawsuit brought against him was politically driven, had bad intentions, and had ulterior motivations. He maintained that authorization and authorization of the federal government are prerequisites for charges under mutiny and sedition and contended that neither were obtained in this case.

The petitioner added that the FIR against him was filed after one day had passed and that this was utilized to fabricate a tale by misrepresenting and distorting his statement.

He added that he was a prominent party official who had been targeted for prosecution and imprisonment ever since the current administration took office.
Gill also brought up the alleged torture he endured and claimed that while in jail, he experienced physical abuse, torture, and violence.

The PTI leader claimed that because of his major medical issues, he needs advanced therapy and care that he cannot receive in incarcerated.
