According to the Nikkei Asia newspaper on Wednesday, Apple Inc. plans to employ an enhanced version of Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC’s latest chip manufacturing technology in iPhones and Macbooks next year.
The report stated that TSMC’s N3E chipmaking technology will be used to mass build the A17 mobile CPU, which is now in development, citing people familiar with the topic. This is likely to be available in the second half of next year.
It was also revealed that the A17 would be used in the 2023 premium iPhone model.
The A15 CPU chip powers the current iPhone model, and Apple has promised that the iPhone 14 Pro would have the same.
The chipmaker supplies companies like Apple and Qualcomm Inc. and controls approximately 54% of the global market for chips produced under contract.
There was a delay in both Apple and TSMC’s responses to Reuters’ requests for comment.
