The Defense Security Cooperation Agency reports that the U.S. Department of State has approved a possible $450 million sale of F-16 aircraft sustainment and related equipment to Pakistan.
The DSCA has issued a statement confirming that Lockheed Martin Corporation would serve as the project’s lead contractor.
To the announcement, “a determination has been made allowing a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Pakistan of F-16 Case for Sustainment and related equipment for an anticipated cost of $450 million.”
This sale is expected to take place shortly.
According to the press release, the agreement would involve engineering, technical, and logistical assistance for Pakistan’s F-16 fleet.
This support will be provided by the United States.
According to the release, Pakistan would not receive any newly developed capabilities, weapons, or ammunition as a result of this deal.
“by allowing Pakistan to retain interoperability with U.S. and partner forces in existing counterterrorism actions and preparation for future contingency operations,” the CIA added, “this proposed sale will advance U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.”
Additionally, it was reported that the proposed sale will assure the continuing maintenance of Pakistan’s F-16 fleet, which will greatly boost Pakistan’s air-to-ground capacity in support of counterterrorism operations.
According to the research, the armed forces of Pakistan will have no trouble incorporating these goods and services into their operations.
According to what was found in the report, the proposed sale of this weaponry and support will not appreciably alter the military status quo in the region.
Additionally, it was declared that the sale would not put the readiness of the American military in jeopardy.
