The public health situation is deteriorating in the country as the dengue outbreak is claiming lives day by day due to excessive rain in the past two months.
Senior health experts warned that Senior medical specialists told Dawn that an excessive number of dengue patients were seeing their doctors these days and that anyone complaining of a sore throat and a high fever should get tested for the mosquito-borne disease as soon as they notice them, usually within 24 hours. They advised against self-medication, including the use of antibiotics, steroids, and even some common medications that actually dropped the platelet count, as these may exacerbate the situation and result in death. They also advised against bad patient treatment by any (unqualified) doctor.
Approximately 347 cases have been reported in the last five days; people experiencing symptoms like sore throat and fever are being advised to get tested within 24 hours. Fresh sources have reported that the highest number of dengue patients i.e., 45 is currently at the Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital and Research Center.
A senior doctor said that “A major problem we are experiencing is lack of space. All our high dependency units on three flours are 95 percent full”. The health care department has reported almost 347 cases within the first 5 days of September, with most cases reported in Karachi East (113).
However, the situation has not yet entered a dangerous phase but it is getting complicated. Health care professionals are continuously emphasizing preventing mosquito bites at all times.
According to specialists, individuals need to be aware that common medications like aspirin impair platelet levels and that antibiotics shouldn’t be taken in viral infections. Additionally, certain regularly used syrups for fever and sore throat have ingredients that decrease body reaction, and because dengue care has altered, oral hydration is now prioritized.
