Twitter, Facebook Suspends Trump after US Capitol Violence

After tweeting to supporters who attacked the US Capitol, Donald Trump has been suspended from Twitter and Facebook.

He said, “I love you” in a social media message to the protestors and described his protestors as “patriots” before asking them to leave for home along with various false claims on election frauds.

As per Twitter, three of his tweets were required to be removed for “severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy” and if the tweets were not removed, the president’s account would remain locked.

“Future violations of the Twitter Rules… will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account”.

It further said.

Facebook joined the bandwagon and banned Trump for 24 hours and Youtube also removed its video because it “violated policies on spreading election fraud”.

“We removed it because on balance we believe it contributes to rather than diminishes the risk of ongoing violence.”

Facebook also said.

Four people are killed, one woman is shot and three people have suffered injuries inside the US Capitol after Trump supporters stormed the seat of the US government and clashed with police upon certification of November’s election results. An evening curfew was instituted by Washington’s mayor in an attempt to contain the violence.

The violence started after Trump told his supporters on the National Mall in Washington that the election has been stolen.

He further escalated the situation via a video message repeating false claims after a few hours.

“We have been significantly restricting engagement with Tweets labelled under our Civic Integrity Policy due to the risk of violence”.

Twitter said.

“The violent protests in the Capitol today are a disgrace. We prohibit incitement and calls for violence on our platform. We are actively reviewing and removing any content that breaks these rules.”
