AR Rahman was grateful that a street in Canada was named after him

On Monday, AR Rahman, an Indian musician, and composer turned to Twitter to express his gratitude to the city of Markham, Canada, for naming a boulevard after him. Famous for his roles in Rang De Basanti and Slumdog Millionaire, the musician wrote a post appreciating “all the love” he’s received from the government and his compatriots.

In a tweet, the “Jai Ho” singer expressed his gratitude and honor at being recognized by the city of Markham, mayor Frank Scarpitti, and the people of Canada.

Rahman’s note said, “I never imagined this.” I’m grateful to Mayor Frank Scarpitti, counselors, the Indian Consul General (Apoorva Srivastava), and the people of Canada.

AR Rahman is not his name, and it means “merciful,” he stated. “The merciful is our common God’s quality, and we can only serve him. Let this name bring Canada peace, success, pleasure, and health. God bless.”

The 55-year-old musician praised his countrymen for “all the love” and the creative people who inspired him to commemorate 100 years of cinema. “I’m a tiny drop,” he wrote.

Rahman has worked in India’s film industry for approximately three decades. Lagaan, Tamasha, Jodhaa Akbar, Highway, Rockstar, and Swades are among his films. Having a boulevard named after him makes him feel responsible and gives him the strength to keep working and not retire, he wrote.

“I feel a huge duty to accomplish more and be inspiring; not to get tired and retire… yet.” Even if I’m exhausted, I’ll remember I have more things to accomplish, people to meet, and bridges to cross, he said.
