British showbiz icon Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) speaks up for Imran Khan’s cause

Yusuf Islam, who converted to Islam in 1977, has questioned the judiciary in his tweets over the sedition case against Shehbaz Gill and a ban on broadcasting live speeches of Mr Khan.

ISLAMABAD: A famous British singer-songwriter and Muslim icon Yusuf Islam formerly known as Cat Stevens has come out in support of his long-time associate, Imran Khan, ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Yusuf Islam, who converted to Islam in 1977, has questioned the judiciary in his tweets over the sedition case against Shehbaz Gill and a ban on broadcasting live speeches of Mr Khan.

He said, “What’s happening in #Pakistan? Do judges still have a say are they being muffled?” Yusuf said telling the truth is not sedition _ using the law as a political stick to beat down lawful criticism is the work of rogues.”

Yusuf Islam pointed out that the floods that have devastated over 60,000 homes across Pakistan, swept away roads and bridges” should be the “number one priority” at this time. “This is what the army and government should be focused on — not gagging politicians for publicly exposing possible anti-human rights policies,” he added.
