Prime Minister has once again stated his support for SCO goals

On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the SCO’s mission and stated that his administration will do everything in its power to help the organisation achieve its goals.

In the future, he hoped that all members of the SCO would continue to collaborate on projects that contributed to world peace and strengthened international solidarity and collaboration.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) secretary general, Ambassador Zhang Ming, paid a visit to the prime minister at the nation’s capital.

To the ideals of the SCO Charter and the “Shanghai Spirit,” the prime minister of Pakistan reiterated his country’s unwavering dedication.

High fuel and food costs, and the resulting food insecurity and economic and financial difficulties for many nations, including SCO members, were among the present global challenges he underlined.

The prime minister praised the SCO’s ambitious development goal, noting that the organization’s primary focus remained the expansion and improvement of the SCO territory and the degree to which SCO leaders were addressing the hopes and dreams of their people.

He highlighted trade and economy; connectivity and transport; poverty alleviation; energy; agriculture and food security; climate change; security; information technology; digitalization; and cultural and people-to-people links as priorities and areas of interest for Pakistan within the SCO framework of cooperation.

To encourage intra-SCO trade and development efforts, the prime minister stressed the importance of adopting suitable financial arrangements.

The prime minister emphasized the importance of the connectivity agenda, which aims to improve transportation and communication ties, and noted that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) might serve as a valuable model in facilitating this goal.

The prime minister also discussed the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in fostering regional and global stability.

In this regard, he lauded Pakistan and its other SCO-RATS members for their efforts to address regional security concerns.

The SCO secretary general thanked Pakistan’s government and leadership for hosting him ahead of the upcoming SCO Council of Foreign Ministers and Heads of State meetings in Uzbekistan.

The secretary-general thanked the prime minister for providing direction on SCO’s future priorities and endeavors and praised Pakistan’s positive contributions to SCO’s work and operations across all sectors.

He also mentioned that Prime Minister Shehbaz had expressed interest in attending the SCO summit scheduled to take place in Samarkand in September 2022.

The prime minister extended his heartfelt best wishes to the secretary-general on his new role.

Based on the principles of mutual trust and respect, equality, respect for other civilizations, and the pursuit of shared development, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a trans-regional multinational organization with eight members.

Since its founding 20 years ago, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has grown into a major worldwide platform. Its member states account for 41% of the world’s population and 23% of its GDP. Pakistan’s hopes for the SCO were discussed at length during the secretary general’s four-day visit, which was a valuable opportunity for high-level meetings.
