Iran claims Saudi Arabia wants to continue negotiations

Iran and Saudi Arabia, the dominant Shi’ite and Sunni Muslim countries in the Middle East cut relations in 2016, with both parties supporting friends waging proxy conflicts throughout the region, from Yemen to Syria and beyond.

DUBAI: Saudi Arabia wants to begin diplomatic discussions with Tehran, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said at a press conference on Monday a day after Iraq’s prime minister advocated for a renewal of talks between the regional foes.

Since last year, Tehran and Riyadh have undertaken five rounds of negotiations.
