Director Anti-Quackery holds session with External Medical Experts to curb quackery

It was also agreed that more EMEs would be recruited by the Directorate to ensure that teams maintain adequate performance efficiency all over Sindh.

KARACHI: Director of Anti-quackery, Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) conducted the first of its kind stakeholder engagement session in Hyderabad, bringing together external medical experts (EMEs) from Hyderabad and Shaheed Benazir Abad, to meet and discuss the way-forward strategy for the Directorate.

External Medical Experts (EMEs) are senior experienced medical professionals associated with the medical fraternity who are members of the SHCC team and conduct field operations in different parts of the province as part of the SHCC Anti-Quackery Inspection and Enforcement unit.

The session was immensely fruitful and identified new solutions. EME’s also attended a training session followed by lunch and a motivational session by Director Anti-Quackery Mr. Syed Zeeshan A Shah.

‘Training our leadership team is the key to success’, said Mr. Shah.   The team members met with each other for a ‘strategic dialogue’ and identified key result areas for SHCC team operations in future months across the province.

One of the key challenges discussed in the ‘strategic dialogue’ was the need to increase field force at District-level all over the province. It was mutually agreed that pro-active support must be taken from Deputy Commissioner’s Office to engage their teams to become part of a dedicated Anti-Quackery operations unit. This will strengthen the team and enable a larger presence as a unit-force.

It was also discussed and agreed that increasing headcount at the division level will lead to larger-team base and build a bigger footprint across Sindh, in the fight to eradicate ‘quackery’ in future. External Medical Experts further elaborated on different challenges they face in the field and were given guidelines by Director- Anti quackery on field management techniques, while handling healthcare practitioners who may be ‘Quacks’.

It was also agreed that more EMEs would be recruited by the Directorate to ensure that teams maintain adequate performance efficiency all over Sindh.
