GENEVA: Air traffic controllers in Switzerland were forced to seal their airspace on Wednesday after a computer failure grounded all planes, authorities said.
Computer malfunction with Skyguide, the Swiss air traffic control agency, has resulted in a ban on all flights in and out of Swiss airspace, Skyguide stated in a statement.
Geneva and Zurich airports “regret this occurrence and its ramifications for the customers, partners, and passengers of Geneva and Zürich airports and are working full out to find a solution,” it said in a statement.
Geneva’s airport tweeted earlier that it was suspending all flights until 11 am (0900 GMT) because of a computer problem, but that has already been lifted.
Switzerland’s main news service, ATS-Keystone, reported that foreign flights to Switzerland were being diverted to Milan, Italy.
