King Salman Hospitalised For Tests

Rarely does the secretive kingdom inform on the monarch’s health.

King Salman of Saudi Arabia was brought to the hospital for testing, Saudi official media said Sunday.

The 86-year-old monarch has controlled the top oil exporter and the Arab world’s largest economy since 2015.

A royal palace statement said he went to King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah on Saturday “to undergo certain medical exams.”

May God protect the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and keep him healthy.

Rarely does the secretive kingdom inform on the monarch’s health.

In 2017, Saudi Arabia denied claims the monarch was intending to abdicate in favour of his de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In 2020, King Salman had his gall bladder removed.

He was last hospitalised in March for “successful medical testing” and to replace his pacemaker’s battery.

Saudi Arabia has embarked on ambitious post-oil economic reforms, increased women’s rights, and adopted a more assertive foreign policy, including a war in Yemen, under his rule.
