On Sunday, US President Joe Biden met with G7 leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to address Russia’s conflict in Ukraine and fresh sanctions.
A video chat with his other G-7 leaders was set for 11:00 a.m. ET (1500 GMT) from his weekend home in Delaware. A White House official confirmed the meeting.
The White House said the leaders will discuss increasing Western sanctions against Russia since its incursion on Feb. 24.
This includes expanding on the special sanctions against Russia, to impose significant consequences for Putin’s aggression, as per the White House statement.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, Victory Day in Russia. It is a “special military operation” to disarm Ukraine and remove anti-Russian nationalism instilled by the West. They claim Russia attacked without provocation.
Since the invasion, the US and EU have placed crippling sanctions on Russia, targeting banks, businesses, and individuals to pinch the Russian economy and limit war resources.
