Following the attack on the Karachi University, China declared on Wednesday that the blood of Chinese citizens should not be spent in vain and that those responsible “would undoubtedly pay the price.”
A suicide bombing outside the University of Karachi’s Confucius Institute killed four people, including three Chinese nationals. Sindh’s Counter-Terrorism Department has said that a female suicide bomber was responsible for the explosion that took place near the vehicle that was transporting Chinese passengers.
The attack was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army, a proscribed terrorist group.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated that “China expresses strong condemnation and anger over this serious terrorist incident, and sends sincere condolences and sympathies to the victims and injured and bereaved families.”
China’s foreign ministry and diplomatic posts in Pakistan promptly started an emergency response mechanism, the spokeswoman noted.
Moin ul Haque, Pakistan’s ambassador to China, received an urgent phone call from Foreign Affairs Assistant Minister Wu Jianghao, expressing exceedingly severe concerns. “Pakistan should conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident quickly, capture and prosecute the offenders, and take all reasonable steps to safeguard the safety of Chinese residents in Pakistan and prevent such occurrences from occurring again,” he said.
Officials from both the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the Consulate-General in Karachi are working together with the Pakistani government to handle issues related to the deaths of the Chinese citizens.
On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid a condolence visit to the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, saying, “The Pakistani government will conduct an in-depth investigation into the incident, give exemplary punishment to the perpetrators, and strengthen the security of Chinese personnel, projects and institutions in Pakistan.”
Prime Minister Sharif stated that Pakistan and China’s friendship will not be harmed by any force. They have started a probe in Sindh and Karachi to find the culprits.
The Foreign Ministry of China stated that “China’s Foreign Ministry and Chinese diplomatic missions in Pakistan would continue to encourage relevant Pakistani ministries to appropriately manage the follow-up affairs of those slain, treat the injured, and forcefully crackdown against the terrorist group involved.”
