Sanctions Can Trigger Space Station Clash

There have been “illegal sanctions” on our enterprises, Roscosmos stated, and it has requested that these measures be lifted

MOSCOW: Russia’s space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday that sanctions imposed by the West against Russia might lead the International Space Station to fall.

Russia’s spacecraft servicing the ISS might be disrupted by sanctions imposed by the United States, according to Dmitry Rogozin.

Consequently, the Russian part of the station, which helps adjust its orbit, might be impacted, leading to the 500-tonne structure “falling down into the sea or onto land,” the Roscosmos chairman stated on Telegram.

Rogozin, a vocal supporter of the Russian military in Ukraine on social media, said, “The Russian part guarantees that the station’s orbit is adjusted (on average 11 times a year)”.

It is doubtful that the ISS will come down in Russia, according to a map published by him.

Roscosmos’s sanctions are “insane” , especially those governed by “dogs of war,” he said, referring to the countries that have put sanctions on Roscosmos.

Rogozin also highlighted the possibility of the space station collapsing when criticising Western sanctions on Twitter earlier this month.

On March 1, Nasa announced it was looking for a way to keep the ISS in orbit without Russian assistance. Soyuz spacecraft takes people and supplies to the Russian portion. In contrast, Rogozin asserted that the rocket used for takeoff was “under US sanctions since 2021 and under EU and Canadian sanctions since 2022”.

There have been “illegal sanctions” on our enterprises, Roscosmos stated, and it has requested that these measures be lifted.
