ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to pay compensation to Chinese nationals, who were killed and injured in a terrorist attack on a bus carrying Dasu Hydropower Project workers last year.
Ten Chinese national lost their lives and another 26 were hurt in a suicide attack on a bus that was carrying them to the work site of the Dasu Hydropower Project in July last year. Compensation will be given to families of the deceased and to those who sustained injuries.
According to sources, the government has worked out four different compensation amounts involving $4.6 million to $20.3 million compensation.

The Dasu Hydropower Project is funded by the World Bank and does not fall in the scope of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Four Pakistanis had also died in the attack.
The Chinese contractor had stopped work on the project and demanded a compensation of $37 million after the incident.
The compensation that the contractor had claimed was over 500% more than what a Chinese national’s heirs would have received if killed in a similar attack in their own country.
The 4,320MW Dasu Hydropower Project is being constructed by China Gezhouba with funding from the World Bank.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet is scheduled to take up today the compensation package for approval. Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the concern authorities to present the options before the ECC for making a decision.
