Saudi authorities have started investigating samba dance performers, wearing objectionable attires in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi officials believe that a samba performance by dancers some scantily clad for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has been diversifying the entertainment options.
However, many Saudis are of the opinion that samba dance performed in Jazan festival in Saudi Arabia was not much vulgar like the one that is performed every year in Brazil Carnival with almost naked female dancers.
Several videos on social media have shown three foreign samba dancers demonstrating their bodily moves in a main street of Jazan, in the southwest of the kingdom.
The women dancers, who participated in the Jazan Winter Festival, wore multi-colour feathers emblematic of the Brazilian tradition with their legs, arms and bellies almost uncovered.
The state-run El-Ekhbariya TV in KSA has aired footage of the festival but the TV channel blurred images of the women to protect their identity.
One Twitter user, Ahmad al-Saneh, said he did not consider the dancers’ dress excessively immodest. However, in KSA, most Saudi women wear traditional cloak-like robes in public.
Jazan’s governor, Prince Mohammed bin Nasser has ordered an inquiry and necessary measures to prevent all abuse. For the past five years KSA has been unveiling a broad range of entertainment and sporting events from music concerts to cinema and a Formula One Grand Prix auto race for its people especially the young generation.
