Exams for International Centers Under Review
The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has indicated that its Secondary School Certificate (SSC) 2026 exams for overseas centers may be postponed due to ongoing security concerns in the Gulf region.
In a letter dated March 18, 2026, the board said it is closely monitoring developments in Gulf countries. The SSC exams are currently scheduled to begin on March 31, 2026, but the board is reviewing all options to ensure student safety and smooth administration.
The statement highlighted that if the prevailing uncertainty continues, the board may reschedule exams at international centers to a later date, potentially after Eid ul Fitr, in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
FBISE Focused on Student Safety and Contingency Planning
FBISE Chairman Prof. Dr. Ikram Ali Malik addressed concerns among students and schools, emphasizing that the board is prepared to make suitable alternative arrangements if necessary.
He noted that the decision to postpone or reschedule exams will depend on security conditions, government restrictions, and logistical feasibility. The board remains committed to ensuring that students do not face disruption or risk while taking exams.
The FBISE is also coordinating with overseas examination centers to assess the ground realities. This includes understanding local safety measures, transportation availability, and exam center security protocols.
Potential Implications for Students and Institutions
Postponing overseas SSC exams could have significant impacts on students preparing for higher education. Many international centers rely on precisely timed exam schedules, and delays may affect university admissions, scholarship applications, and academic planning.
Institutions and students are advised to stay updated through official FBISE notifications. The board is expected to announce any final decisions in the coming days, giving enough time for preparation.
Security and geopolitical developments in Gulf countries remain unpredictable, and the FBISEโs cautious approach reflects its priority on student welfare and exam integrity.
Chairman Malik reiterated that the board is working closely with all stakeholders, including school administrations, overseas centers, and parents, to minimize inconvenience. The goal is to ensure exams are conducted safely, fairly, and efficiently.
While no official postponement has been confirmed yet, the possibility of rescheduling signals that FBISE is taking proactive steps. Students should continue preparing diligently, while remaining flexible about exam dates.
The boardโs decision will ultimately balance academic timelines, safety considerations, and international coordination to maintain the credibility of SSC exams abroad.
