Baghdad: Iraqโs Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaโ al-Sudani has strongly condemned US-Israeli strikes on positions of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), also known as Hashd Shaabi, warning that the attacks could trigger dangerous regional consequences.
Sudani described the strikes as unacceptable violations of Iraqโs sovereignty and called for an immediate halt to the escalation. He also warned that what he called reckless military actions by the United States and Israel threaten regional stability and risk widening the conflict.
Moreover, the Iraqi leader stressed that targeting forces operating under the Iraqi state undermines the countryโs authority and weakens efforts to maintain domestic security. He emphasized that Iraq remains committed to protecting its sovereignty and preventing further escalation.
Meanwhile, Iraqโs Coordinating Framework for Shiite Media announced that the Prime Ministerโs office convened an emergency meeting in Baghdad following the strikes. The meeting brought together senior leaders of Hashd al-Shaabi and commanders from Iraqโs armed forces to assess the situation.
During the meeting, participants strongly condemned what they described as terrorist US-Israeli attacks that injured Iraqi fighters who were deployed to maintain internal stability. Officials stated that the strikes represented a direct violation of Iraqi sovereignty.
Furthermore, participants warned that such military actions could undermine regional security and disrupt critical supply routes. They stressed that continued escalation may threaten stability not only in Iraq but across the wider Middle East.
Security sources also confirmed that the strikes targeted areas near the Taqaddum airbase in Iraqโs Salahuddin province, where Hashd al-Shaabi units maintain operational positions.
Authorities are now evaluating the aftermath of the attack while calling for restraint to prevent further escalation in the region.
