Nehal Hashmi _ Prime Minister sends a summary to the president for approval
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to appoint senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nehal Hashmi as the new governor of Sindh, according to an official statement released on Thursday.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Shehbaz Sharif has forwarded a formal summary to Asif Ali Zardari for final approval of the appointment.
Officials said the move is part of the federal government’s effort to fill the key constitutional post in the province, which holds significant political and administrative importance in the country.
Following the decision, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Nehal Hashmi and congratulated him on his nomination for the governorship. The meeting took place shortly after the summary was dispatched to the president for endorsement.
Senior PML-N leader from Karachi
Nehal Hashmi is considered a senior figure within the ruling PML-N and has remained active in national politics for several years. He hails from Karachi, the capital of Sindh and the country’s main economic hub.
Political observers say his appointment could strengthen the party’s influence in the province, where multiple political groups compete for power and public support.
The governor’s role in Pakistan is largely constitutional and ceremonial; however, the office also plays an important part in overseeing provincial affairs, facilitating coordination between the federal and provincial governments and representing the federation in the province.
Once President Asif Ali Zardari formally approves the summary, an official notification will be issued confirming Hashmi’s appointment and outlining the effective date of his tenure as Sindh governor.
