Washington โ Officials from United States President Donald Trumpโs administration informed lawmakers this week that the first six days of the war on Iran cost the US at least $11.3 billion. The estimate emerged during a closed-door congressional briefing for senators on Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the matter.
However, officials clarified that the figure does not represent the total cost of the conflict. Instead, the administration shared the estimate as lawmakers increasingly demand detailed information about the scale and financial impact of the military campaign.
Rising war costs and potential funding request
Meanwhile, congressional aides expect the White House to soon request additional funding from Congress to sustain the ongoing war effort. Some officials believe the administration could seek around $50 billion in extra funding, although others suggest that figure may underestimate the actual needs of the campaign.
So far, the Trump administration has not released a public estimate of the warโs total cost or its likely duration. Nevertheless, President Trump told reporters during a visit to Kentucky on Wednesday that the United States had already โwonโ the war but would continue operations to โfinish the job.โ
Additionally, administration officials told lawmakers that US forces used approximately $5.6 billion worth of munitions during the first two days of strikes alone.
Global impact and concerns over military supplies
The military campaign began on February 28 with coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian positions. Since then, the conflict has disrupted global energy markets and created uncertainty in international transportation and shipping routes.
Consequently, several members of Congress have expressed concern that the war could rapidly deplete US military stockpiles. Lawmakers worry this may strain defense resources at a time when the defense industry already faces production challenges.
In response, President Trump recently met executives from several major defense contractors as the Pentagon works to replenish weapons supplies and strengthen military readiness.
