Shangla: Three members of the same family, including a woman, her husband and their child, died after lightning struck their house in Shangla on Wednesday, according to 24NewsHD.
The incident occurred in the Lavlani area, where severe weather has continued to affect daily life. Shortly after the lightning strike, local residents rushed to the scene and retrieved the bodies from the debris of the collapsed house.
Authorities identified the deceased man as Yar Mohammad, while the identities of the woman and child were not immediately released. The sudden deaths of the entire family sent shockwaves through the community and left residents in deep grief.
Moreover, the tragedy triggered panic in the surrounding area as intermittent rain continued in Shangla and nearby districts. Heavy showers have also persisted, with breaks, in Buner and Swat, increasing fears of further weather-related incidents.
Residents have urged authorities to remain on alert as unstable conditions continue across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Meanwhile, the latest incident has revived concerns over the wider impact of heavy rain and lightning in the province.
In July 2025, at least six people died in separate rain- and lightning-related incidents across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to a Provincial Disaster Management Authority report issued at the time, the fatalities occurred in Bajaur, Kohat, Malakand and Khyber.
The report said the dead included one man, one woman and four children. In addition, three houses suffered partial damage because of severe weather.
Furthermore, the PDMA directed district administrations to provide immediate relief to affected families and ensure proper medical treatment for those injured in weather emergencies.
As rains continue in northern districts, officials are expected to monitor the situation closely and respond to any fresh emergencies.
