Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached out Tuesday. With a personal letter to Iran’s freshly appointed Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. In it, he made clear Pakistan wants to stay close partners with Tehran moving forward. The Prime Minister’s Office put out the word shortly after the letter was delivered.
Leadership Change in Iran
Additionally, Iran’s Assembly of Experts had named Mojtaba Khamenei to the top job only the day before. He steps in after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes earlier this month.
Shehbaz started by congratulating the new leader on taking charge. He wrote that he believes Mojtaba will guide Iran toward real peace. Steady stability. And better prosperity for its people.
Then came the condolences. The prime minister said the loss of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei hit Pakistanis hard. He stressed that ordinary people here stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Iran’s leaders and citizens right now.
Shared History and Future Cooperation
He reminded everyone what ties the two countries together. The same faith. Centuries of shared history. Overlapping culture. And even similar languages in places.
At the end he wished Mojtaba good health. Personal safety. And success in the role. He prayed for peace. Calm. And brighter days ahead for all Iranians.Shehbaz didn’t keep it private. He posted a short message on X too: “I congratulate his eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on his assumption of the responsibilities of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Moreover, President Asif Ali Zardari added his own note on X. He sent congratulations and good wishes. Then hoped the whole region would soon find more calm and better conditions.
