Saudi Arabia on Monday accused Iran of escalating regional tensions, saying Tehranโs actions toward the Kingdom and other Gulf states do not reflect wisdom or a genuine desire to avoid a wider conflict. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement warning that Iranโs continued attacks could severely damage regional stability and future diplomatic relations.
According to the ministry, the recent actions by Iran indicate a dangerous escalation that threatens security across the Gulf region. Officials stressed that such behavior contradicts Tehranโs public statements about avoiding broader confrontation in the Middle East.
Moreover, Saudi authorities rejected remarks by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who previously claimed that Iran had no intention of targeting neighboring countries. Riyadh said the situation on the ground does not match those assurances.
Saudi Arabia rejects Iranian claims
The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that Iran has failed to implement the commitments mentioned by its president. Instead, authorities said Tehran continued launching attacks while offering what Riyadh described as baseless justifications.
Officials also dismissed allegations that fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft operating from Saudi territory were participating in the ongoing conflict. According to the ministry, these aircraft are conducting defensive patrols designed to monitor and protect the airspace of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council states.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasized that the defensive missions aim to counter potential threats from Iranian missiles and drones targeting the region.
Attacks on civilian infrastructure raise concerns
Saudi officials also expressed deep concern over attacks targeting civilian infrastructure across the region. According to the ministry, strikes on airports, oil facilities, and other non-military sites demonstrate a deliberate attempt to destabilize regional security.
The statement added that such attacks violate international law and established global conventions governing armed conflict. Consequently, Riyadh reiterated its strong condemnation of Iranian actions targeting the Kingdom, Gulf Cooperation Council member states, and several allied Arab and Islamic nations.
Saudi Arabia also called for international attention to the growing security threats posed by continued hostilities in the region.
