The Pakistan Meteorological Department is saying that stuff from the recent bombings in Iran could mess up the air in our western areas. This is because of the airstrikes by the US and Israel on Iranian oil places. Those happened after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28.
PMD people are pointing out that the winds right now are coming from the west. So whatever smoke and chemicals are hanging over Tehran and nearby spots could drift across the border. Places like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and other western districts might start feeling it โ poorer air, maybe smell of burning oil, harder to breathe for some folks.
In Tehran itself, after the attacks on March 7, there was thick black smoke everywhere. People even reported black rain that looked oily. The Iranian Red Crescent people warned that the air has bad stuff in it โ things like hydrocarbons, sulfur, nitrogen oxides. They said it can burn skin or make lungs really bad if you breathe it too much.
Rain and Thunder Coming โ Good for Air but Watch Out for Other Trouble
At the same time, the weather guys are expecting clouds, rain and some thunderstorms in the north and west. Starting from Monday evening and going on till around March 12, there should be light to moderate rain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
Additionally, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera and nearby towns could get showers especially on the 10th and 11th. In the hills thereโs a chance of hail too, and landslides could happen in weak spots. Theyโre telling drivers and travellers to hold off on mountain roads if they donโt need to go.
However, farmers should cover their crops properly because of the sudden wet and cold. Day temperatures up in the northern areas might drop 3 to 4 degrees Celsius for a bit โ which could help clear some pollution if the rain comes good, but it also brings its own problems like slippery roads and flash floods in low spots.
