ISLAMABAD: Police arrested 50 suspects and impounded dozens of motorcycles and vehicles during large-scale combing operations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, authorities said on Monday. The operations targeted illegal Afghan residents and other suspicious individuals as part of an ongoing security drive.
According to reports, police arrested 43 suspects in Islamabad during raids carried out across several areas. Authorities also impounded 37 motorcycles and two vehicles during the operations.
Law enforcement teams conducted the searches in the jurisdictions of Koral, Aabpara, Secretariat, Golra, Sabzi Mandi, Lohi Bher, and Bani Gala police stations. After the raids, officials shifted the detained suspects, motorcycles, and vehicles to different police stations for further investigation.
During the operation, police searched 784 suspicious individuals and inspected 346 houses. In addition, officers checked three hotels and 52 shops while verifying documents of 115 motorcycles and 280 vehicles.
Joint security operations in Rawalpindi and nearby districts
Meanwhile, security agencies carried out joint operations in Rawalpindi and surrounding districts with the participation of police, Elite Force, Dolphin Force, and the Counter Terrorism Department.
Authorities checked 50 houses and questioned 55 individuals during the raids. As a result, police took five suspects into custody.
Furthermore, officials expanded the operation to Murree, Kotli Sattian, and Bhagwari Bazaar, where they checked 52 houses and 31 hotels to identify suspicious individuals.
In Jhelum, police inspected 177 houses and questioned 463 individuals in areas including Chak Bahrin, Kala Gujran, Chak Akka, and Jada Chowk. Authorities also registered cases against two individuals under the Rental Act.
Meanwhile, police conducted additional searches in Talagang, where officers checked 53 houses and questioned 127 residents.
Proclaimed offenders arrested during security drive
Police also arrested two proclaimed offenders in Murree and two more in Talagang, Taman, and Lawah during the operation. Authorities recovered a pistol and a large quantity of ammunition from their possession.
Security officials said the crackdown against suspicious individuals and illegal residents will continue to maintain law and order.
