Iranโs Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi talked to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the phone and discussed recent regional developments and the consequences of US-Israel military strikes against Iran.
During the call, Lavrov conveyed condolences over the deaths of Iranโs Supreme Leader, several senior military commanders, and other Iranian citizens following attacks carried out by the United States and Israel.
According to Iranian officials, Lavrov expressed sympathy with the Iranian government and people while highlighting the seriousness of the situation. He also stressed that such military actions violate fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Furthermore, the Russian foreign minister warned that continued escalation could have serious consequences for regional and global stability. He urged all parties to avoid further military confrontation and to seek diplomatic solutions to ease tensions in the Middle East.
Araghchi outlines impact of attacks on civilian infrastructure
Meanwhile, Araghchi thanked Lavrov for his message of sympathy and solidarity. He then briefed his Russian counterpart on the latest developments following the recent attacks.
During the conversation, Araghchi accused Israel and the United States of committing what he described as crimes against the Iranian people. He said the strikes targeted both military and civilian locations across the country.
In addition, Araghchi claimed that several residential neighbourhoods, schools, mosques, hospitals, and emergency service centres were hit during the attacks. He warned that such actions have worsened the humanitarian situation and increased tensions across the region.
The Iranian foreign minister also emphasised that Tehran expects the international community to respond firmly to what it considers violations of international law.
The discussion reflects ongoing diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Moscow as tensions continue to rise following the recent escalation in the Middle East.
