Beijing Urges Restraint and Respect for Sovereignty
China has called for an immediate ceasefire following military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran. Beijing urged all parties to avoid further escalation and return to dialogue and negotiation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China expressed serious concern over the developments. The ministry stressed that Iranโs sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity must be respected.
Chinese officials emphasized that military action would only worsen instability in the Middle East. They called on all sides to exercise restraint. Beijing said peaceful resolution remains the only viable path forward.
The strikes reportedly targeted Iranโs military capabilities. Iranian state media said Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the operation. The escalation has intensified geopolitical tensions across the region.
China Advises Citizens to Leave Israel and Iran
On Sunday, Chinaโs embassy in Israel issued a notice urging Chinese nationals to move to safer areas. Citizens were also advised to leave the country through the Taba border crossing into Egypt if conditions allowed.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also advised citizens in Iran to depart as soon as possible. Authorities listed four land routes for evacuation. These routes connect Iran with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, and Iraq.
Beijing said protecting the safety of Chinese citizens overseas is a top priority. Embassy staff are providing assistance and emergency guidance. Officials urged nationals to closely follow security updates.
The travel advisories reflect rising risks in both Israel and Iran. Regional airspace disruptions and security threats have increased in recent days. Governments worldwide are monitoring the situation.
State Media Criticises Military Action as Violation of UN Charter
In a commentary published Sunday, Chinaโs state-run Xinhua News Agency strongly criticized the strikes. The outlet described the attacks as โbrazen aggression against a sovereign nation.โ
Xinhua said the use of military force represents power politics and hegemony. The commentary stated that such actions violate the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The editorial argued that coercive military measures undermine global stability. It called for renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further conflict.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong-based airline group Cathay Group announced suspension of operations in parts of the Middle East. The move follows heightened security concerns after the strikes.
Flights to and from Dubai and Riyadh have been suspended. Freighter services operating through Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai are also affected. Cathay said some flights are being rerouted to avoid the affected airspace.
The escalating crisis has triggered global reactions. China continues to advocate for ceasefire and diplomacy. Officials warn that further escalation could destabilize the broader region.
