Authorities have suspended classes in 133 government schools across Lahore after a structural survey found several buildings unsafe, 24NewsHD TV reported on Wednesday. The survey, conducted by the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, prompted the vacating and cordoning off of affected school structures to prevent accidents and ensure student safety.
The CEO of the Education Authority Lahore confirmed that teaching activities have been halted in both partially and fully dilapidated buildings. Dangerous blocks have been sealed, and students are being relocated to safer facilities to continue their education without disruption. Authorities stressed that ensuring student safety remains their top priority.
Meanwhile, construction and renovation work is underway to strengthen school infrastructure across the city. New toilet blocks are being built in 144 schools, and boundary walls are under construction in 34 schools. Areas where construction is in progress have been fully cordoned off to prevent unauthorized access and minimize risk.
Additionally, authorities have appointed a teacher as a focal person at each site to oversee safety measures and monitor ongoing work. This initiative ensures that safety protocols are strictly followed while construction proceeds.
Officials emphasized that the combination of immediate relocation, building assessments, and proactive infrastructure improvements reflects a comprehensive strategy to protect students and staff. They also noted that regular surveys and safety audits will continue across all government schools in Lahore to prevent future hazards.
The Education Authority urged parents and guardians to cooperate during relocations and construction, highlighting that student safety and uninterrupted learning remain central to all decisions.
