Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have strongly objected to the government’s handling of Imran Khan’s recent medical procedure. The party has demanded full access to his personal doctors and family members. PTI leaders have also questioned why the hospital visit took place at night.
Former prime minister Imran Khan was shifted from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) late Monday night. Doctors administered a second anti-VEGF intravitreal injection as part of treatment for his diagnosed eye condition. Hospital officials confirmed the procedure in a statement.
According to medical reports, Imran Khan suffers from central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Doctors recommended a series of injections to manage the condition. After completing the procedure, medical staff monitored his health. Authorities later shifted him back to Adiala Jail.
PTI Demands Transparency in Medical Treatment
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan said the party received no prior notice about the late-night examination. He stated that the government had earlier mentioned a possible date for the check-up. However, officials did not inform the party that the procedure would occur at night.
Speaking to media representatives near Adiala Jail, Gohar said he was informed only after the examination had already taken place. He expressed concern over the secrecy surrounding the transfer. He argued that there was no justification to obstruct Imran Khan’s treatment or restrict meetings with family.
Gohar insisted that doctors should conduct the treatment at Shifa International Hospital in the presence of family members and personal physicians. He emphasized that access to personal doctors is a basic right. Moreover, he said the matter should not become an issue of ego for authorities.
PTI has repeatedly urged the government to ensure proper medical facilities for its founder. Party leaders claim transparency is necessary to avoid confusion. They also maintain that personal physicians have never politicized medical updates.
Government Defends Procedure, Announces Third Injection
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry confirmed that Imran Khan underwent the second injection at PIMS. He stated that doctors observed improvement after the first procedure. Therefore, they proceeded with the next scheduled dose.
In a post on X, the minister said the medical process was completed successfully. After clearance from the medical team, authorities transferred the former premier back to jail. He added that officials fulfilled all legal and humanitarian obligations during the transfer.
The government has also announced that a third injection is scheduled for March 24. Officials say the treatment plan follows medical advice. They maintain that authorities are providing healthcare facilities according to the law.
Separately, PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan criticized the late-night hospital visit. Speaking outside the Supreme Court, he questioned why the transfer occurred under secrecy. He said informing the family and party leadership beforehand could have prevented controversy.
Despite tensions, PTI leadership has reiterated its commitment to constitutional and political struggle. Gohar stated that the party does not believe in unlawful actions. He said PTI would raise the issue in parliament, courts, and public forums while staying within legal boundaries.
The debate over Imran Khan’s medical care continues to draw national attention. Transparency and access to personal doctors remain central to PTI’s demands.
