KOHAT: Three policemen, including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), embraced martyrdom while several others sustained injuries in a terrorist attack on a police mobile van in Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs Kohat district on Tuesday, officials said.
According to police, armed militants opened fire on the vehicle in the remote area along Shakardara Road. As a result, DSP Asad Mehmood and two other personnel lost their lives on the spot, while injured officers were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Attackers torch police vehicle
Officials stated that after targeting the van, the assailants set the police vehicle on fire before fleeing the scene. The blaze completely damaged the mobile van, further intensifying the gravity of the incident.
Soon after the attack, additional police contingents rushed to the area and cordoned off the surroundings. Authorities launched a search operation to trace the perpetrators, while security was heightened across sensitive points in the district.
Meanwhile, senior police officials condemned the attack and paid tribute to the martyred officers, stating that their sacrifice would not go in vain. They reiterated their resolve to continue operations against terrorist elements operating in the region.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a surge in militant activities in recent months. Therefore, security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations to curb terrorism and restore lasting peace in the province.
