ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry on Monday declared that national security remains “non-negotiable” after Pakistan carried out airstrikes on militant targets inside Afghanistan, killing more than 80 terrorists.
In a statement, Chaudhry said Pakistan had consistently pursued dialogue and peaceful coexistence. However, he added that authorities would defend the country if Afghan territory continued to facilitate proxy attacks. He affirmed that the people of Pakistan stand firmly with their armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
Moreover, the PML-N lawmaker urged the Afghan government to take decisive steps to prevent its soil from being used for cross-border militancy. He stressed that sustainable regional peace depends on dismantling terrorist sanctuaries without delay.
Referring to the recent operation, Chaudhry said security forces neutralised militants involved in attacks on Pakistani territory and took precautions to avoid civilian harm.
He also cited a United Nations report indicating that fighters from 21 militant organisations operate from Afghan territory, posing risks to regional stability. Furthermore, he accused India of supporting and financing militant networks to destabilise Pakistan.
The remarks followed Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes against groups linked to recent suicide bombings in Islamabad, Bajaur, and Bannu. Security sources described the action as intelligence-based and proportionate.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said Pakistan would not allow hostile elements to destabilise the country from across the border. In a statement on X, he said citizens, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stand united with security forces in a decisive struggle against terrorism.
