227 Million Citizens Registered Across Pakistan
The National Database and Registration Authority has registered 227 million Pakistanis. The authority submitted its annual report to the Ministry of Interior. The report highlights record-breaking biometric and citizen data coverage.
According to spokesperson Shabahat Ali, 97% of Pakistanโs population is now registered with NADRA. This marks one of the highest national identity registration rates in the region.
The data shows steady growth in citizen documentation. NADRA reported an overall 11% increase in registrations during the year. Officials say the numbers reflect improved outreach and digital services.
Union councils recorded 31.9 million childbirth registrations. This indicates stronger documentation at the grassroots level. Authorities believe early birth registration strengthens national identity systems.
Gender statistics reveal that 48% of registered citizens are women. Meanwhile, 52% are men. NADRA also recorded an 8% rise in women registrations. Officials consider this a positive sign for gender inclusion in national records.
An 18% increase in childbirth registrations was also reported. Authorities link this growth to improved awareness campaigns. Digital services and local registration centres have made the process easier.
Massive Biometric Database Strengthens National Security
NADRA now holds one of the largest biometric databases in the country. The authority possesses 1.68 billion fingerprints in its system. This data supports identity verification and fraud prevention.
In addition, NADRA maintains 170 million facial recognition records. Facial data plays a key role in digital identity checks. It also supports law enforcement and border control systems.
The database also includes seven million retinal scans. These advanced biometric records improve accuracy in sensitive cases. Officials say the technology enhances national security and transparency.
The scale of biometric data highlights Pakistanโs expanding digital identity infrastructure. NADRA officials state that continuous updates ensure reliability and security.
Expansion of Registration Centres and Digital Services
NADRA operates 938 registration centres across Pakistan. These centres provide identity cards, child registration certificates, and other services.
In 2025, the authority established 75 new registration centres. It also added 138 new service counters. Officials say this expansion improved access in remote areas.
Digital transformation has also reduced physical workload. The Pak ID mobile application now handles over 15% of NADRAโs services. The app has surpassed 12 million downloads. Citizens can apply for ID cards and renew documents online.
Officials describe the mobile platform as a major step toward e-governance. The app reduces waiting times and improves efficiency. It also supports overseas Pakistanis who require remote services.
The latest report confirms that NADRA continues to strengthen Pakistanโs identity management system. With 227 million registered citizens and expanding biometric records, the authority plays a central role in governance and security.
Authorities plan to further enhance digital registration systems. Increased outreach and technology upgrades remain key priorities for the coming year.
