Authorities Cite Anti-Terrorism Law, Urge Verification Before Giving
LAHORE, Feb 20 โ The Punjab Home Department has released an updated list of proscribed organizations and unregistered charitable institutions, warning citizens against providing them with any financial assistance.
In a statement issued Thursday, the department said that under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, offering support to banned outfits constitutes a criminal offense. Consequently, authorities urged the public not to donate zakat, charity, or other contributions to organizations that lack proper registration or appear on the proscribed list.
Officials emphasized that individuals who assist groups involved in terrorism or anti-state activities will face strict legal action. Furthermore, the department directed all charitable organizations operating in Punjab to register with the Punjab Charity Commission to ensure transparency and compliance with the law.
Public Asked to Report Suspicious Fundraising Activities
The department advised citizens to verify the status of charities before making donations. Registered organizations can be authenticated through a QR code printed on their official registration certificates. In addition, the complete list of banned organizations is available on the websites of the Punjab Home Department and the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).
Authorities also encouraged the public to report suspected fraud, terrorism-related activities, or fundraising efforts by proscribed groups. Complaints can be lodged through the toll-free number 0800-11111 or via the helpline 042-99213871.
Moreover, citizens can verify registered institutions by sending a message to the Punjab Charity Commissionโs WhatsApp number 0313-4995564.
The department reiterated that vigilance and responsible giving play a crucial role in preventing the misuse of charitable funds and strengthening counterterrorism efforts across the province.
