ISLAMABAD: Pakistan hockey team captain Ammad Butt has claimed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken โvery strict actionโ against the leadership of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), following allegations of mismanagement during the teamโs FIH Pro League tour of Australia.
โI have heard that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken very strict action and the President of the Hockey Federation, Tariq Bugti, the Secretary, Rana Mujahid, as well as the entire team management have been sacked,โ Butt said.
His remarks follow earlier reports suggesting the prime minister decided to remove the hockey teamโs management after an inquiry into complaints of poor accommodation, inadequate food, and other logistical failures during the tour.
The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) launched a formal inquiry after videos and player statements surfaced online showing national players living in substandard conditions. Reports also claimed players had to perform basic chores, including washing dishes, due to poor planning and lack of support from PHF officials.
The PSB Chief Financial Officer, Hasnat Ahmed, Saeed Ahmed Chaudhry, and Rana Nasrullah conducted the inquiry. The committee completed its investigation in one day and submitted its findings to PSB Director General Yasir Pirzada.
According to reports, the inquiry findings prompted the prime minister to remove PHF President Mir Tariq Bugti, General Secretary Rana Mujahid, and the entire team management from their roles.
Tariq Bugti announces resignation
Earlier, President of Pakistan Hockey Federation Tariq Bugti announces his resignation today. He held the Pakistan Sports Board responsible for financial mess during recent foreign trip.
Meanwhile, tensions within the national squad have continued to rise. Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan players publicly protested against PHF officials, with Captain Butt and others stating they could no longer work under the current management.
The players accused PHF leadership of misleading them and failing to provide basic facilities and support throughout the tour.
