Pakistani delegation to engage US leadership on bilateral, global issues
WASHINGTON, Feb 19 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Washington on Thursday on an official visit at the invitation of US President Donald Trump to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi accompanied Sharif as part of the Pakistani delegation.
According to a statement from the Prime Ministerโs Office, the visit underscores Pakistanโs inclusion in the Board of Peace and highlights its role in promoting global stability. In addition to attending the opening session, Sharif will meet senior US officials and other participating leaders to discuss bilateral ties and global issues of mutual concern.
Pakistan joined the 22-member board in late January and signed its founding charter during the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The summit will focus on consolidating a ceasefire in Gaza, mobilising financial commitments and shaping a proposed global forum. Washington has announced an initial pledge of $5 billion for the initiative.
Moreover, participants will likely discuss the proposed International Stabilisation Force, tasked with securing reconstruction zones and supporting governance arrangements in post-conflict Gaza.
Eight Muslim-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, will attend. They are expected to coordinate positions on Gaza-related matters during the meeting.
