ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Peshawar on Wednesday to sight the moon of Ramazan 1447AH, as Pakistan prepares for the start of the holy month. The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, who will lead the session and announce the official decision on the Ramazan crescent.
Ruet Committee to Review Moon Sighting Evidence
Officials said the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman and other members will arrive in Peshawar on Tuesday ahead of the main meeting. The committee will hold the session at the Auqaf Department office in Peshawar, where it will review testimonies and evidence related to the sighting of the Ramazan crescent.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a notification confirming that zonal moon sighting committee meetings will also be held in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta. These committees will collect and forward moon sighting reports to the central body for final confirmation.
Met Department Predicts Strong Chance of Crescent Visibility
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a strong likelihood that the Ramazan crescent will be sighted on Wednesday evening. As a result, authorities expect the committee to receive multiple reports from across the country.
If the crescent is confirmed, Pakistan will observe the first fast of Ramazan on Thursday, February 19. The official announcement will be made after the committee completes its review and finalises the decision.
