PESHAWAR: At least two people were killed and 17 others injured after a powerful explosion struck near Miryan Police Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs Bannu district on Monday, police said. Authorities reported that a time bomb planted in a motorcycle detonated near shops opposite the police station, hitting civilians gathered in the area. A child was among the dead.
Although police personnel remained unharmed, several victims sustained critical injuries. Officials said the blastโs intensity damaged nearby structures and caused panic among residents and shopkeepers.
Medical teams rushed the injured to District Headquarters Hospital and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital, according to hospital spokesperson Muhammad Noman Khattab. Emergency responders from Rescue 1122 quickly reached the site and transported victims to medical facilities.
Security Forces Launch Investigation
Soon after the explosion, a heavy police contingent, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad and Quick Response Force, sealed off the area. Security teams launched a search operation and began collecting evidence to determine the nature and origin of the device.
Police said the Bomb Disposal Squad cleared the site to prevent further threats, while Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan later visited hospitals to inquire about the injured and oversee response efforts.
Bannu has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months amid a broader uptick in militant violence. In January, two boys were injured in a blast in the Domel area, one later succumbing to injuries. Earlier, former local nazim Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir was wounded in a bombing outside his office.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing as security forces step up vigilance across the district.
