A new weather system is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to several southern regions of Pakistan starting Monday. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a shallow westerly wave will approach western parts of the country on February 16. Consequently, multiple provinces may experience unstable weather conditions.
Rain and Thunderstorm Expected in Balochistan
Under the influence of this system, light to moderate rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is forecast for many districts of Balochistan. The affected areas include Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Qilla Saifullah. In addition, Chaghi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, and Mustung are likely to receive rainfall.
Furthermore, Bar Khan, Sibbi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Gawadar, Awaran, Kharan, Pasni, Ormara, and Lasbella may also experience showers. The forecast period extends from the evening or night of February 16 until February 17, with occasional gaps.
Authorities have also warned of possible hailstorms in north Balochistan during this period. Therefore, residents should remain cautious and monitor local advisories.
Sindh to Receive Showers from February 17
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in several districts of Sindh beginning February 17. The affected cities include Dadu, Hyderabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Jamshoro. Moreover, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Khairpur may experience similar conditions.
Gusty and dust-raising winds are likely to accompany the rainfall. As a result, visibility on roads could temporarily reduce. Travelers and commuters should exercise caution, especially during strong winds.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab Also Affected
Light to moderate rain with wind and thunderstorms is forecast for Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Kurram. These areas may experience unsettled weather on the night of February 16 and throughout February 17.
Similarly, isolated areas of Punjab are expected to receive light rain on February 17. The districts include Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, and Bahawalpur. Gusty and dust-raising winds may also affect adjoining areas.
In addition, meteorologists have predicted possible hailstorms in Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan. Therefore, farmers and residents should take necessary precautions to protect crops and property.
Precautionary Measures Advised
Although the forecast suggests light to moderate rainfall, sudden wind gusts may cause minor disruptions. Consequently, authorities may issue local advisories if conditions intensify.
Residents in vulnerable areas should secure loose objects and avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms. Moreover, motorists should drive carefully in low-visibility conditions.
This approaching weather system highlights the importance of preparedness during seasonal transitions. While rainfall may bring temporary relief, safety precautions remain essential.
