Imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke to his sons for about 20 minutes on Saturday. His sister, Aleema Khan, said the call brought him immense joy after months apart.
This call followed a Supreme Court order directing authorities to allow Imran to speak with his children. The order came after his lawyer, Salman Safdar, submitted a report revealing that the former premier had lost 85 percent of vision in his right eye.
Aleema posted on X, โThe chief justice of Pakistan directed that Imran Khan speak with his sons. They shared that he was extremely happy to hear their voices after such a long time.โ
In addition, she stressed the urgency of medical care. โWe are now awaiting his treatment at Shifa International Hospital Islamabad under the supervision of his personal doctors. Specialist doctors must make every effort to restore his eyesight,โ she said.
She also warned about the consequences of delay. โThe intentional delay in providing care has already damaged his eyesight. We cannot tolerate any further delay. Immediate attention is essential to prevent permanent vision loss,โ she added.
Family Alleges Medical Neglect and Solitary Confinement
Meanwhile, Imranโs sons, Kasim and Sulaiman Khan, said they have been unable to meet their father since his arrest. They claim that restricted access worsened his condition.
ย After the court received the medical report, Kasim described the situation as โa direct consequence of solitary confinement and medical neglect.โ
He explained, โMy father has lost most of the vision in his right eye. Reports indicate only 15 percent remains. This results from 922 days in solitary confinement, denied blood tests, and deliberate refusal of proper treatment.โ
Furthermore, Kasim held authorities accountable. โThe regime in power, the army chief, and their supporters bear full responsibility. They manipulated the justice system to keep my father in solitary confinement while his health deteriorates.โ
He added that both he and Sulaiman are still denied visas to visit their father. Therefore, the family demands immediate intervention and access to specialist care to prevent further deterioration.
Supreme Court Orders Urgent Medical Intervention
Subsequently, the Supreme Court ordered a medical team to examine Imran Khan urgently. Doctors will assess his eyesight at Shifa International Hospital Islamabad. Authorities must ensure full care under specialist supervision.
As a result, the situation has reignited debates over prison conditions and the treatment of political leaders. In addition, the family continues to press for immediate, transparent, and effective medical attention.
