QUETTA: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz today announced Rs 10 billion for the Frontier Corps (FC) to combat terrorism effectively. The Frontier Corps will enhance its capacity-building and security operations in Balochistan province.
Speaking at FC headquarters during her visit to the province, Maryam Nawaz said the funding would improve operational readiness, particularly after recent militant attacks. In remarks aired Wednesday, Maryam explained that she learned months earlier about the FCโs need for Rs10bn. โI decided it was not a favour but a responsibility,โ she said, adding that Punjab would provide the full amount.
Her visit followed a wave of attacks across Balochistan on January 31 that disrupted normal life for days. Security forces later launched Operation Radd-ul-Fitna-1 and killed 216 militants, according to officials.
Maryam paid tribute to FC personnel serving in difficult conditions and expressed concern for their safety. โYou are fighting for the nation and sacrificing your lives,โ she said, saluting their bravery. She added that Punjab stands firmly with Balochistan and conveyed Nawaz Sharifโs support for the province.
Calls for Clarity Against Terrorism and Internal Threats
The chief minister also warned against forces seeking to destabilise Pakistan. She urged political leaders and citizens to reject ambiguity in confronting terrorism. โWhoever weakens Pakistan is the worst enemy, whether external or internal,โ she declared.
Highlighting emerging threats, Maryam said Pakistan faces not only conventional terrorism but also fifth-generation and psychological warfare targeting national unity. She stressed the need for political honesty and firm decisions, referencing past debates over how leaders described militant groups.
โIf we fail to show clarity, our soldiers will continue to be martyred,โ she said, calling for decisive action against all elements undermining national security.
