Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown removed Muhammad Shoaib from his role as Business Ambassador for Tourism following pressure from Brampton Super League (BSL) officials. Authorities also requested the suspension of all city ground permits issued to organizations linked to him.
This action comes after serious allegations surfaced against Shoaib, including favoritism, forgery, embezzlement, and abuse of authority. BSL Founder Tariq Pervez and Director Faisal Moledina emphasized that their goal is accountability, not sensationalism. They stated that transparency and good governance in cricket must remain a priority.
Governance Violations and Legal Challenges
Pervez and Moledina allege that Shoaib misused his authority by removing them as directors without holding a proper board meeting. Furthermore, they claim he appointed his wife as a director, bypassing lawful corporate procedures. According to BSL officials, the organization operated without compliance with member approvals or corporate rules.
In response, the officials filed a legal notice through counsel challenging Shoaibโs actions. The notice addresses unauthorized director removals, improper filings, and alleged misuse of corporate funds. As a federally incorporated non-share capital corporation, BSL must follow the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (CNCA). The notice stresses that all authority must come from properly convened member meetings and valid board resolutions.
Financial Accountability Demands
BSL officials have formally demanded that Shoaib repay disputed funds totaling CAD $39,181 by 5:00 p.m. on February 12, 2026. Alternatively, they require a legally supported repayment plan. Additionally, the officials demanded that he return all corporate property currently in his possession. These steps aim to restore financial accountability within the organization.
City Grounds and Public Trust Concerns
The officials also raised concerns about ground allocations by the City of Brampton. They urged the city to revoke all permits for organizations associated with Shoaib. Meanwhile, more than 24 cricket teams have already requested city grounds for the 2026 season. By acting quickly, BSL aims to ensure fair allocation and maintain the integrity of cricket in the city.
Call for Independent Investigation
BSL leaders called for a fair and independent investigation by Mayor Patrick Brown and the Brampton City Council. They stressed the importance of transparency and public confidence in governance. Yusuf German, a member of the mediation committee, confirmed that Shoaib was invited to present his perspective at a press conference but chose not to attend.
โThis is only the beginning,โ said Faisal Moledina. โWe will provide further documentation, and legal action will intensify if accountability is not ensured.โ BSL officials warned that strong measures are necessary to protect cricket governance and ensure fairness for all teams in Brampton.
