Showbiz stars, diplomats add sparkle to Basant celebrations in Lahore
LAHORE: Showbiz personalities and foreign diplomats joined Basant celebrations in Lahore on Sunday, adding colour and vibrancy as the city marked the festivalโs much-anticipated return. Consequently, the historic Delhi Gate area turned into a focal point of cultural activity, drawing local residents and international guests alike.
US Chargรฉ dโAffaires Natalie Baker participated in the festivities and arrived at the venue wearing a yellow outfit, reflecting the traditional spirit of Basant. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari received her, while Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Provincial Minister Sohaib Bharath were also present to welcome the delegation.
Members of the US diplomatic mission, including Deputy Assistant Secretary John Mark, Consul General Stetson Sanders, Sadaf Saad and other officials, attended the celebrations. Moreover, the guests sampled traditional Lahori cuisine, experiencing the cityโs renowned culinary heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Baker thanked the Punjab government for the arrangements and said such events strengthened people-to-people connections and mutual understanding. Meanwhile, prominent figures from Pakistanโs entertainment industry travelled from Karachi and abroad to take part in the festivities.
Artists praise revival and cultural outreach
Actors Yasir Hussain, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Adeel, Mohib Mirza, Juggun Kazim, Ali Zargoon, Faryal Khan, Gohar Rasheed and Aamna joined the celebrations and praised the festive atmosphere. Several artists welcomed the revival of Basant and admired Chief Minister Maryam Nawazโs role in restoring the festival.
Adeel credited the provincial leadership for Basantโs return and cited its positive economic impact. Mikaal Zulfiqar said Lahore had awakened once again in vibrant colours, while Marriyum Aurangzeb highlighted culture as a bridge between nations, promoting peace and friendship.
