LAHORE: Kite-related business continued to surge in Lahore during the Basant festivities, with sales figures reflecting robust market activity. The Kite Flying Associationโs legal adviser, Malik Faizan Ahmed, said sales of kite string reels alone crossed Rs1.2 billion.
Speaking to the media, he noted that despite noticeable price increases, kites and accessories remained easily available across major city markets.
Consequently, buyers continued to flock to traditional trading hubs, keeping demand consistently high. Moreover, vendors reported steady footfall throughout the day, indicating sustained public interest in the seasonal activity.
Sales volumes and active markets
Malik Faizan Ahmed revealed that more than one million kite reels were sold on the fourth day alone. In addition, buyers purchased over 20,000 spools of kite string, commonly known as pannas. He also shared updated market prices, stating that a one-and-a-half tawa reel is selling for Rs700, while a one tawa reel costs Rs400 and a half tawa reel Rs300.
Meanwhile, depending on quality, a two-piece panna is priced between Rs 12,000 and Rs 15,000. Furthermore, he provided a detailed breakdown of daily transactions. Sales stood at Rs 160 million on the first day and rose to Rs 180 million on the second day.
Subsequently, they increased to Rs200 million on the third day. On the fourth day alone, buying and selling activity reached an impressive Rs680 million. Additionally, he confirmed that trade remains vibrant in key localities, including Androon Mochi Gate, Islam Pura, Sanda, Samanabad, Nonarian, and Ichhra.
As celebrations continue, traders expect momentum to remain strong, reflecting Basantโs enduring economic impact on Lahoreโs traditional markets.
