Authorities in Peshawar have completed extensive upgrades at Imran Khan Stadium. They installed modern LED floodlights, making the venue fully ready to host domestic tournaments such as the National T20 Cup. As a result, fans can expect exciting cricket battles under lights.
The stadium now blends modern facilities with a pristine playing surface. Its 25,000 seating capacity, curved roof, and revamped infrastructure mark a bold step in reviving a long-dormant venue. Moreover, floodlights now allow night games, creating new opportunities for fans and broadcasters alike.
Domestic Cricket and Night Matches Take Center Stage
With the upgrades complete, the stadium can host local and regional tournaments immediately. Furthermore, evening fixtures will attract larger crowds and enhance the atmosphere. Officials also expect the improved facilities to draw more teams and competitions to Peshawar, boosting the regionโs sporting profile.
Cricket authorities emphasize that the enhancements are crucial for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Local players now enjoy access to a high-standard venue for training and competitive matches. In addition, night matches will increase television coverage, fan engagement, and sponsorship opportunities. Consequently, the stadium aligns better with modern cricketing standards.
PSL Inclusion Remains Uncertain
Despite the improvements, PSL-level matches are not confirmed for Peshawar. In late 2025, PSL CEO Salman Naseer included the stadium among six potential venues. Discussions considered Peshawar alongside Faisalabad as possible additions.
Naseer noted that the stadium was โalmost readyโ but needed minor upgrades to meet international standards. Inspectors identified only limited work before it could host PSL matches.
However, later decisions excluded Peshawar. Faisalabad became the preferred additional venue. Therefore, Imran Khan Stadium did not host PSL games in the latest season.
Looking Ahead: Opportunities for Top-Tier Events
Even though PSL matches are pending, the stadiumโs completion represents progress. Authorities and cricket administrators expect the venue to host top-tier events in the future. Moreover, the upgrades highlight Peshawarโs commitment to professional cricket and regional participation.
Local fans, players, and officials remain hopeful. With night matches now possible and domestic tournaments scheduled, the stadium is poised to become a central hub for cricket in the province. Additionally, the experience gained from hosting domestic events will prepare the venue for potential international fixtures. Consequently, Peshawar could soon become a key destination for national and international cricket.
