KARACHI: Record-high gold prices have encouraged robbery of gold in Pakistan. In a new robbery case, a Karachi resident was robbed of a huge quantity of gold and foreign currency in a daylight robbery in the Bahadurabad area.
The incident occurred shortly after the victim returned home from a bank, highlighting growing concerns over street crime in the city despite enhanced surveillance measures.
According to police officials, the victim was carrying 200 tolas of gold and $100,000 in cash when armed suspects targeted him. Investigators said the robbers followed the man from Sharea Faisal, tailing his vehicle before launching the attack at his residence. The assailants then swiftly executed the robbery and escaped before police could respond.
Robbers flee after a calculated attack
Police said four armed men riding motorcycles carried out the operation. After confronting the victim at his home, they seized the gold and cash and fled the scene within minutes. Authorities estimate the total value of the stolen assets to be over Rs130 million, making it one of the most significant robberies reported in Karachi in recent months.
Although the area is considered relatively secure, the suspects managed to evade capture. Despite the presence of Safe City cameras and private CCTV systems in and around Bahadurabad, police said the robbers escaped undetected immediately after the crime.
Investigation underway amid security concerns
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have launched a detailed investigation. Police have collected evidence from the crime scene and obtained CCTV footage from multiple locations along the suspectsโ escape routes.
Officials said the footage is being reviewed to identify the attackers and trace their movements.
A formal case has been registered, and police teams are conducting raids in different parts of the city to apprehend the suspects.
Police officials have launched a probe to trace the robbers and recover the stolen gold and foreign exchange.
