Lawmakers Condemn Recent Attacks
Government lawmakers strongly denounced the latest militant attacks in Balochistan. They said terrorism has no connection to deprivation or rights issues. During Mondayโs National Assembly session, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called the deprivation narrative โbaselessโ and vowed a firm response.
He stressed that terrorists hold no authority anywhere in the province. Moreover, the minister warned that the state would not tolerate violence under any circumstances. Additionally, he noted that militant groups receive backing from across the Afghan border, where their leaders operate openly.
Furthermore, Asif accused India of funding terrorist networks in Balochistan through proxies. He highlighted recent counter-terrorism operations that eliminated 177 militants. Importantly, none of those killed had political or nationalist links, he added.
Criminal Networks and Smuggling Operations
Asif explained that criminal networks in Balochistan have formed armed wings. In addition, illegal smuggling from Afghanistan and Iran generates billions of rupees daily. He also warned that some political actors attempt to exploit these networks for personal gain.
Since Balochistan covers nearly 40 percent of Pakistanโs land, it requires a strong security presence. The federal government allocated Rs100 billion for the provinceโs development. By comparison, Punjab received Rs170 billion, while other provinces also received substantial funding. Consequently, Asif urged political parties to put aside differences and unite against terrorism.
Government Reaffirms Control and Accountability
Prime Ministerโs Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, echoed these remarks in the Senate. He insisted that terrorists must be called terrorists, โwithout any ifs or buts.โ Furthermore, Sanaullah rejected claims of resentment in Balochistan and denied suggestions of weak government control.
He highlighted that criminal groups can strike anywhere, even in secure areas. For example, militants have stopped buses, forced passengers off, and killed people from other provinces in front of their families. Sanaullah cited the Jaffar Express attacks as a clear illustration of the threat.
Additionally, he accused these groups of acting under instructions from hostile foreign forces. Therefore, he demanded decisive action against them. He also pledged that terrorists would face the same fate as enemies defeated during Marka-e-Haq, referencing past military operations against India.
Call for Unity Against Terrorism
Lawmakers stressed the importance of national unity to fight terrorism effectively. They urged vigilance, strong political support, and coordination with security forces. Moreover, leaders reassured citizens that the government would protect Balochistan and respond firmly to every violent act. Additionally, they encouraged communities to remain alert and report suspicious activity.
